The Mandali owes its origin to the keen sense of service and co-operation, enriched by a small band of far-sighted men, in the community, conceived the idea to start an Institution to help the needy and deserving students of either sex-irrespective of sub-sections, to enter the portals of learning, individual charity and benevolence, not always easy to find and often embarrassing to accept, was to be mobilized through an institution- the Mandali. has played a valuable role in helping the young men and women of the Goud Saraswat Brahmin Community taking higher education overseas. When the Society was founded 98 years ago, there were not many institutions dedicated solely to overseas education. The few that did exist worked largely to help their small communities to forge ahead, and that too, mostly in the educational sphere because of the political exigencies of the time. I am a Master’s in Computer Science student at theUniversity of Texas at Dallas. While applying for my post-graduation, I was really skeptical about how I will manage the finance for my education. I did not want to stress my parents out with that responsibility. Amidst all of this, I sought out for help to the Saraswat Samaj and I was overwhelmed with the help that they provided. I got a scholarship from Saraswat Vidyarthi Sahayak Mandaki and BSV Rajadhyaksha GSBFE Society of Rs.3,00,000/- each which helped me with my living expenses here in the United States. I am in debt for this help from Samaj’s end and their entire team is very courteous.
